Traditionally, Mabon Autumn Equinox 21st March is celebrated over a week. It is a time to come back to the hearth and make your home or your space a nurturing calming space for comfort in the colder months. Take the time to spend at home decluttering and cleaning out what does not serve you and your family. Cleanse the space of negativity by getting rid of items that do not bring you joy (think Marie Kondo) and smudge your home with sage / myrrh / sweetgrass. Create in the kitchen the delicious smells of home cooked stews and breads and invite your family and / or friends into your space to feel the love and nurture, a place where they can feel safe and heard.
It’s wonderful time of year to go on a nature walk and collect some offerings for your altar (thanking the trees and woodlands for their bounty). In the evening, make a bonfire (fire restrictions permitting) sing and dance and be grateful for all the blessings in your life and cast away the negative, the grief, the sadness of the year gone. Open your heart to joy, love and connection, something we have sorely missed over the past 12 months.
